Moving to a new place can be daunting, but one of the best ways to feel at home is by getting involved in your local community. That’s something we hear time and again here at Kilkenny Volunteer Centre, and it’s been beautifully highlighted in a recent Kilkenny People article.
Volunteering is about more than lending a hand – it’s a great way to meet people, build confidence, and feel part of something. Whether you’ve just arrived from abroad or moved from another part of Ireland, there’s a place for you in Kilkenny’s vibrant volunteer community.
A Warm Welcome
People from all over the world are finding their feet through volunteering in Kilkenny – from Ukraine to Zimbabwe, Italy to Jordan – and, of course, plenty of home-grown volunteers too. They’ve been getting involved in everything from community clean-ups and arts festivals to food banks and cultural events.
One volunteer described their local group as their “other family” – and that really sums up what community volunteering can mean.
Support to Get Started
At Kilkenny Volunteer Centre, we’re here to help you find the right opportunity. Our Volunteering Development Officer is available for a one-to-one chat to guide you through the options and connect you with groups that match your interests.
Since 2021, over 70 new volunteers have joined Keep Kilkenny Beautiful alone – painting murals, tidying streets, and helping make the city a more welcoming place for everyone.
